Know Yourself Part 3
Most of us love random quizzes, aptitude tests, zodiac signs, and astrology as we find out pieces of ourselves through these. But the point is to remember that they give you directions in life. None of these indicate that you are set in stone when it comes to your inclinations, tendencies, behavior, and actions.
Last year, people were so into astrology, perhaps because of how uncertain the year had turned out. In the later part of the year, people were talking about the Mercury Retrograde and noticing things like that. But a good astrologer will tell you these are just influences that you will find when you embark on the dirt road. And at any point, you can change directions and go another way. You don't have to keep going the way you're going. You can always turn a different direction, get off the road, or always stop and move towards things that are more likely to happen.
Consider me, for example. I am an introvert but I still can go to parties and attend big events. I may not always enjoy them. But I can still do them. Whatever my attributes, they don’t stop me. The same applies to my love language, which is spending quality time. However, this doesn't mean that I cannot appreciate getting gifts from someone if that's their love language. I can still figure it out. I may not enjoy it as much, but I still can feel the giver’s love. So, that’s how things are – they’re all connected, they weave together and influence parts of you that make you whole and unique.
One of my tendencies is that I’m a rebel. But that means I don't do very well with my inner being influenced from the outside. So I generally work my way through each situation, and I do that through like my sacral center (human design), which is pretty much gut feelings. And that supersedes the idea of thinking through things too much or agonizing over stuff. The more I agonize on thinking, the less likely I'm going to do something as a rebel which is not at all enjoyable for me.

When it comes to decision-making, my gut feeling helps me to get through. When I first started podcasting, I used to agonize and worry that I may not be good at it. I thought I was awkward with this stuff. I have nothing important to talk about, let alone entertaining. Then I thought, I’m just going to try it. I let go of pressure and compulsions. I just had my headphones, a microphone, and a free app that is still currently on my phone. And I decided that was all I needed and I was ready to take the plunge.
It’s the same thing with all the information that quizzes, zodiac signs, and astrology give you. Some tend to take it overboard but they need to be careful. The information should not be considered to be entire. Aries is my zodiac sign, for example, which means that I'm really good with new ideas and notions, I usher change and I want to move the society forward. Now, that works very well with what I want to do with my business. But in my introverted ways, I don't want to do that in public. And that makes total sense. I enjoy doing my podcasting because I'm at home doing it and I almost never do it in groups. I only have interviews.
Also, I'm really good at just bringing something new to everything I touch and I'm really good at working in chaos. I need structure, but I don't need a very specific set structure unlike some people who work well with the same schedule all the time. That is why they work better at a nine-to-five job, as they need to have that specific structure. I need to have some kind of structure but something that’s not so rigid.
So, there you go. I just wanted to show you how all these things can fit together because at the end of the day, these different quizzes and aptitude tests are there to help you find more about yourself, give you directions on what works better for you, what you want, and what seems to be easy for you to do. And that’s how you can be better at things and be happier about life
But of course, there are some instances where these pieces do not fit well together. For example, if someone says, “I can never get anywhere on time because I’m Virgo,” I’m not buying it. It’s like a pitch they’re using when the truth is that they’re irresponsible. The information furnished by these zodiac signs and quizzes comprise just pieces of you. They don't define you completely. You still have the choice and can still make decisions. You cannot simply blame it on other things and take no responsibility. You essentially have the freedom to choose what you want to do and to do what you’re capable of.
