Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: Interview of Monica from 'You Wanna Do What?' Podcast
When was the last time you stepped outside your comfort zone?
Today on the Introvert’s Bubble Podcast, I will be interviewing Monica of the “You Wanna Do What?!” podcast. Monica describes herself as a social introvert, and eased herself into podcasting starting with solo shows and working up to interviewing guests about their experiences in juggling parenthood, careers, entrepreneurship and personal interests.
Today, we will be talking about trying new things and how to step out of your “introvert’s bubble” to live a life of excitement, and also cross a few things off of your bucket list in the meantime!
Even though trying new things can be scary, it is essential for living a quality life. But keep in mind that you don’t have to compromise your values, likes and dislikes “just because”. For example, Monica has done everything from Spartan Race’s to participating in Tough Mudder’s, but the sight of oatmeal still makes her squeamish (I get it, I am the same way with bacon).
So how do you choose what to try, and what to avoid? Here are some of Monica’s tips when it comes to new experiences:
Check In With Yourself
How do you feel inside about the activity? If you are truly dreading it, don’t do it just to “do it” to say that you did!
Give Yourself Permission To Dabble
You don’t have to go “all in”. Try something once to test it out. Mull it over and decide whether you want to proceed, or chalk it up to experience and try something new.
You Don’t Have To Be Perfect
No one is perfect the first time they do something, or even the second or third time. If you enjoyed the activity, even if you weren’t a natural, keep doing it!
Start Small
When it comes to working through your introvert-ness, try to find something small to do and work up to something big. For example, commit to giving 3 people a compliment every day. Once you feel comfortable with that, move up to 5 people a day. Before you know it, you will be out of your comfort zone and making a difference in not only your life, but other people’s too!
