Introverts Are Less Happy: Examples Of Bad Research
It’s great there is research out there looking at the good and bad about everything. But people do not know that they have sometimes have to make it very simple to get actual results. Also, that when others talk about it (ie the media) they have to cut it down so much to make an article out of it. To the point where the main parts are missing. Or they take parts out that make it sound like their opinion is right.
This study was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General in August. The general consensuses was that the participants that were acting like an extrovert might get a boost of well-being. Now there were only 131 undergrads in the study and it was a short study. The main problem is how strongly people took some of the results and ran with it. Not taking into account the other points the researchers actually put in there.
They even did followup research that was not published talking over the shortcomings of the original study and how other parts can change things. They even referenced the Cost and Benefits Of Acting Extroverted study (2019) saying that this would only benefit extroverts.
We live in an extroverted society
Those who follow that are rewarded in this culture
It was a short study
Plus it was such a small pool of subjects with not a wide range of differences with everyone being undergrads.
People are happier just accepting themselves
If you believe that you need to change and be more extroverted to be happier/successful/etc then you will not be happy being introverted.
Most can’t separate being social from being extroverted
The research even pointed out that this is a blind spot. That only extroverted people are social. So get all the benefits of social people.
