The Importance of Artists: Interview with Ula
Being an artist is never a straight line
Artists are important. Everything in life is touched by it. To the entertainment we consume to the innovations n technology. But there is such a strong story that all artists are poor who don’t contribute to the world. But there are plenty out there who make great money. Photographers for magazines, graphic designers for all those companies you consume online, not to mention movie actors.
Not everyone can go into tech and science. We’re all not made for it. We need artists in the world for different thought processes, different ways of thinking of things. And with the changing landscape how artists get paid for their work becomes less and more convoluted.
But sometimes we just have to recognize that it's a step by step process. And if we just give it our all whenever we can, wherever we can, but still make sure that we can pay our bills. I think those are the kind of artists that make it the ones that don't complain, the ones that don't let themselves become miserable while funding themselves or a job.
I've also learned for myself that as a person I like to do many different things. I like to do multiple different streams of art. I love to speak, I love to draw, I love to paint, but I also really enjoy organizing things, organizing events. So I see myself in multiple places. And I didn't want to accept that for the first two years of dance school because I thought I had to prove to everyone who told me that I couldn't do it that I can make it to the big stage. Because I really thought I wanted that I was hurting myself more and not I was allowing myself to do what I really wanted. I think the main thing for artists is to realize, what do I want to achieve with my art? What does it mean for me?
